At least 24 killed and more than 100 injured in Mathura eviction drive

The violent clashes turned ugly in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, when a team of Police officers tried to evict around 3000 encroachers from the Jawahar Bagh. The anti encroachment operation by police in Jawahar Bagh in Mathura had ended and the area has been completely evacuated. The police have also recovered arms and ammunition from the park. They are now investigating whether land mines where laid to deter police and also whether country made bombs were used by protesters. 24 people have died including a Station House Officer, Santhosh Kumar and the SP, Mukul Dwivedi. Dozens were injured including policemen when people from a semi religious group attacked Police officials. Police resorted to lathi charge, tear gas shells and finally opened fire to deal with the violent satyagrahis in the Jawahar Bagh area of Mathura. Over two years, the activists of a splinter group of Baba Jai Guru Dev, Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi that had occupied hundreds of acres of land on the pretext of an darna.
